Picnics are completely underrated in other parts of the country, but in New York City, they’re practically a rite of passage in the summer. Blake and I went back and forth on how to celebrate our sixth anniversary, but in the end, we decided on a low-key picnic in Central Park.
Food for our picnic was a no-brainer because I can make a cheese board in my sleep. (And cheese is my religion.) We went to some of our favorite neighborhood spots to pick up fresh bread, cheese, charcuterie, fruit and olives. I packed everything in our new nifty picnic basket (which I highly recommend if you’re a local) and off we went!
If you’re not a local, short on time or just plain lazy, there are other options. You can get food delivered via Seamless or Fresh Direct, or you can splurge on Perfect Picnic NYC. They have a variety of service options, from food pick-ups to Instagram-worthy picnic experiences.
Needless to say, it was an afternoon well-spent. We soaked up the sun, squeezed in some great people-watching, and left with full hearts and bellies.
What more could you really ask for?
